‘Contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.’ Jude 3
When you have something of great worth you will fight to keep hold of it.
This year we are celebrating the 500th anniversary of the start of ‘The Reformation.’ Led by Martin Luther in the 16th century, the Reformation was a rediscovery of great Bible truths. The reformers fought to ensure that the gospel would be preserved for future generations.
The gospel truths at the heart of the Reformation were summed up in five Latin phrases: Sola Scriptura, Solus Christus, Sola Gratia, Sola Fide and Sola Deo Gloria. In English, they assert that salvation is according to Scripture alone, in Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone, for the glory of God alone. Together they explain why the gospel is such good news.
Each of these Five Solas is essential to the gospel and so they’re essential to us today. Join us in September and October as we see how they challenge us to ongoing reformation today.
