The Bible is pretty clear about the state of the human heart. It’s wrong, it’s perverse and ultimately, it’s sinful. In Romans chapter 3 it says the following:

–There is no one righteous, not even one;

there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.

All have turned away, they have together become worthless;

there is no one who does good, not even one.’

Now you may be thinking, ÔÇ£I’m not so bad, I’ve never killed anyone!ÔÇØ But alas sin is deeper than that. Sin is the inappropriately angry or lustful thoughts you’ve had. Sin is the pride in your heart that constantly wants to make you number 1. Sin is putting yourself in God’s place, where we do not belong.

Sin is the wedge between us and God. Whilst sin is in our hearts, we cannot fulfil our yearning for eternal life with God.

That’s why Jesus came, the Bible tells us he was fully man and fully God (a difficult concept for another blog post!), because we are unable to save ourselves. We needed someone to come and drive that wedge away and that person was Jesus. God sent his own son to the earth, who lived a perfect life. Jesus did not sin, not once, this can only be because he was God. From this perfect life and relationship with God, Jesus was able to take the sins of all people, and deal with it at the cross.

What’s the catch I hear you ask? Has he saved me? The answer is yes, if you are willing to trust and to follow him! If you accept Jesus into your life as your Saviour and are truly sorry for the sin we have done, God will forgive you and we will be like a wiped slate when we come to stand before Him when we die (Hebrews 9:27 ÔÇ£Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgmentÔÇØ).
